DRIVE EU H2020 project

Within the DRIvE project, we developed a gamification mechanism that engages residents while encouraging them to use more local energy and reduce their electricity bills thanks to actionable tips and insights about their energy usage.

Start of project: December 2017
Location:  EU
Main project delivery to: DRIVE EU H2020

Overall project summary

The overall vision of DRIvE is to realize a true “internet of energy” in which a vast amount of distributed heterogeneous assets will participate to support a low-cost and collaborative energy network that minimizes carbon emissions. The concrete aim of the project is to unlock the demand response potential of buildings through a fully-integrated ICT infrastructure across the entire value chain from the planning to operation in next-generation Smart Grids.

i.LECO contribution and added-value:

To this end i.LECO is contributing to the project with its advanced local energy community platform, which implements the Layered Energy System (LES) concept. Our blockchain-based platform allows local residents to participate in the energy transition and collaboratively experience the future of renewable energy communities.

Within the DRIvE project, we developed a gamification mechanism that engages residents while encouraging them to use more local energy and reduce their electricity bills thanks to actionable tips and insights about their energy usage. Our state-of-the-art AI forecasting algorithms, which we improved during this project, provide a sneak peek at tomorrow’s energy outlook showing end-users when local energy will be in abundance. These algorithms, together with our automated trading agents, assist residents in buying and selling their energy within the community.

WOERDEN

We deployed our community platform on the Woerden pilot and gathered valuable feedback from the residents themselves, which helped improve the technological readiness of our product.

In the final stages of the DRIvE project i.LECO ran multi-agent simulations of the LES concept on real data and demonstrated its benefits over the current tariff scheme of Net Metering.

COMSA
As part of DRIvE i.LECO also implemented an energy dashboard for COMSA where the building manager and regular employees can view relevant data about the operation of their building.
